Mama turns 30

For my 30th birthday, I decided I wanted to have pictures taken of me and the most important person in my life.  Thank you to Laurie Bray (Photography by Laurie) for doing such an amazing job for us.

18 months

Letter to my former students in Henderson, NV:

My Dear Kiddos-                                                                                   March 1, 2012

I'm sorry this first letter is delayed.  I wanted to give you some time to get used to your new situation and your new wonderful teacher before I gave too many updates.

Baby G and I are doing well.  I am teaching some voice and piano students and singing with my little sister in a community choir.  (Remember what I told you about community choirs?  They aren't nearly as good or as fun as middle and high school choirs!  Make sure you take advantage of your school choir time!  Savor it!  It will be gone before you know it.)

It has been a lot of fun to hang out with my little sister since I moved back to Utah.  She is a senior in high school this year and got the lead in her school's musical.  They are doing the show "Anything Goes."  I've been helping her memorize her lines and working with her on the music.  Sometimes we goof around and sing duets at the piano and that has been a great bonding experience!

My little G has a very full schedule here!  We are seeing doctors and therapists from Primary Children's Hospital and they are wonderful!  Currently we have three standing appointments every week:  physical therapy, occupational therapy (to help her use her little fingers better,) and speech therapy.  Sometimes doctors visits or vision therapy appointments are added in and then we have as many as 6 appointments in one week.

In the past 2 months that we've been in Utah, G has started to reach for the person that she wants to hold her, started giggling when she's tickled and within the past 2 weeks just started scooting on her belly!  I'm very excited about that last one.  While she's laying on her belly she'll lean on her elbows and pull herself forward and drag the rest of her body.  Its been very exciting for her, too!  I'll get down on the floor in front of her with a toy (or a cell phone) and move away from her while she scoots forward to try to get me.  (I call it playing "tag.")  :)

G is 18 months old now.  She still doesn't sit by herself and doesn't say any words yet.   Her eyes are a little crossed and we might be looking at surgery to fix that soon, depending on what the doctor says in 2 weeks.  We are on higher doses of 2 seizure meds (we were on 5 right before winter break) and the seizures seem to be going down in frequency.  She is eating better and finally gaining some weight.  I am very optimistic about her future and I am glad I made the decision to spend this time with her.

I miss you all very much and I think about you often.  Whenever I teach my piano and voice students here, I think of you.  Sometimes I stop by starbucks for a chai soy latte (bought with the gift cards that you gave me) and I think about you all then, too.  Whenever I sit down to the piano to let Gwenny pound on it, I think of you.  And, of course, whenever I see or hear a good quote, I think of you.

I hope you are choosing to cherish the time you have together.  I hope you are choosing to be positive and learn from your new choir teacher.  I hope when you see those kids you go to school with who look, talk, walk, or learn different than you do, that you remember they have a mom, just like me, who loves them so very much.  Please be kind to those people and to each other.   Remember, being kind doesn't mean you have to be best friends, it just means treating people the way you would want to be treated.

I've heard you're doing great things with Mr. M, and I'm making plans to come hear you at festival.  I'm so excited to hear you and I know you will do wonderfully!

Sending you positive energy and BIG HUGS,

Ms A
